Low Birth Weight Prevalence, Risk Factors, Outcomes in Primary Health Care Setting: A Cross-Sectional Study

“Children’s health is tomorrow’s wealth” is one of WHO’s slogans of recent years. However, children’s health is to a great extent determined by factors that operate in utero, well before they are born. At birth, fetal weight is accepted as a single parameter that is directly related to the health and nutrition of the mother and her newborn, and on the other hand, is an important determinant of the chances of the newborn to survive and experience healthy growth and development. This is because low birth weight has been shown to be directly related to both immediate, long-term and very long-term development and wellbeing [1-4].
